Quality Without Compromise – medmix’s Approach to Safe, Compliant Dental Solutions
A conversation with Alper Düzel, Head of Quality Management & Regulatory Affairs at medmix
With more than three decades in quality, compliance, and medical device manufacturing, Alper Düzel brings an exceptional blend of engineering discipline, regulatory expertise, and people focused leadership to medmix. His professional roots lie deep in the Sulzer Medica legacy, where quality was not only a standard but part of the culture. Beginning his career in 1984 as an apprentice at Sulzer, he was already milling knee implants in Winterthur at age 22 - a testament to his early commitment to precision and responsibility toward patients.
Over the next 26 years, he built expertise across quality assurance, compliance, nondestructive testing, and inspection leadership, eventually managing nearly 90 employees. Today, as the Head of a 42 member Quality & Regulatory team in Haag, Alper plays a central role in ensuring medmix remains a trusted partner for the dental and medical industries.
Setting the Standard: Trusted, Safe, and Compliant Quality
At medmix, quality is anchored in internationally recognized systems, particularly ISO 13485 for medical devices and ISO 9001 for industrial applications. For Alper, these certifications are not simply badges - they are working frameworks that structure how the organization ensures controlled processes, predictable outcomes, and safe products. This approach perfectly aligns with the requirements of modern dental applications, where precision and regulatory rigor are non‑negotiable.
The same mindset drives medmix’s readiness for the Medical Device Regulation (MDR). Processes are harmonized across sites; teams work strictly within regulatory requirements, and infrastructure is intentionally built to support longterm compliance. Alper emphasizes the importance of beginning every initiative with the right tools and systems so that each site can operate efficiently and consistently.
Quality begins with materials. Every incoming item - whether sourced from suppliers or provided by customers - undergoes thorough assessment. Safety data sheets are mandatory; materials are verified long before they reach production, and strict controls ensure no risk of cross contamination. For Alper, the principle is straightforward: nothing unintended should ever make its way into a medmix product, protecting both employees and end users.
Quality You Can See - and Quality You Can’t
medmix employs a disciplined, transparency driven quality control process. Incoming components are checked against comprehensive material specifications. During production, InProcess Control (IPC) teams operate in shifts, continuously monitoring quality parameters to ensure every product meets defined requirements. Only after thorough verification is a product released — without exceptions.
A significant step forward came in 2025 with the introduction of a state-of-the-art CT scanner. This advanced nondestructive testing technology allows precise visualization of internal geometries, enables the detection of gaps or air pockets, and provides more stable and efficient inspection processes than traditional gauges. For medmix customers, this means an even higher level of assurance that products match their intended specifications.
This dedication to excellence was reflected in the flawless SGS Surveillance Audit for ISO 9001 and ISO 13485, completed without any major or minor deviations. The achievement highlights both the strength of the team in Haag and the efficiency gained through unified certification across the organization. Consolidated processes not only reduce administrative effort but also allow medmix to support higher customer volumes and provide expanded services.
Quality That Builds Trust
Behind every reliable medmix product is a combination of robust procedures, modern equipment, and highly trained people. This combination forms the foundation of the company’s credibility in the dental sector.

Alper and his team value professional, solution oriented collaboration - both internally and with customers. While customer details remain confidential, medmix regularly supports projects that require exceptionally high levels of documentation, regulatory alignment, and medical grade quality standards.
Alper’s guiding principle, rooted in the legacy of Johann Jakob Sulzer, continues to influence his daily decisions: “Whatever you do, do it right.”
Doing so, he believes, requires no additional effort - only the right mindset.
Looking Ahead: Priorities for 2026 and Beyond
As medmix continues to grow, the Quality Management & Regulatory Affairs team will evolve alongside it. Current priorities include:
✅ expanding CT inspection capacity with a second device
✅ supporting the implementation of the new PLM system
✅ contributing to the rollout of the future DMS (Document Management System)
✅ ensuring quality excellence across all new product developments
Yet despite the technology, systems, and certifications, what energizes him most is the collaboration within the Haag team. Pragmatism, solution orientation, and a shared commitment to getting things done form the core of their collective strength.
If medmix’s quality philosophy could be expressed in a single idea, it would be the one Alper returns to again and again: “Do the right thing. Even when it’s not easy, and especially when it’s not easy.”
